Thank you SO much for this interview. It's great to hear your instincts being validated. We haven't done ABA, and I let the boys "obsess" about whatever they want. Interests change and sometimes return again, like trains and NASCAR and calendars and maps.
Recently at one of my son's IEP meetings, they wanted to put my 9 year old onto a "special diploma" path. This would eliminate their need to teach everything "normal" kids have to learn including science. I was conflicted but told them NO until I had time to think about it. I am glad I didn't allow them to get lazy with him too soon. Who knows what will interest him in the coming years.

I did not get the impression by this person that she had asperger's at all. It really seemed like she struggled to remember what her symptoms were supposed to be. She reminded me of a someone with a personality disorder and very narcissistic. She seems to have found a more acceptable label that lends credibility to her dysfunctional traits. IT does not matter what you call it however, she still is not autistic. At least not in the sense of someone needing the kind of help many of the children that are being brought up today need. For her to render an opinion that ABA is abnormal, etc., makes me think that she really does not want to do anything but focus on herself. By claiming to just let these kids be, she justifies why she does nothing and why she did not seek treatment for her child. Afterall, it would have taken away from the focus on herself.
I just got the jeebies with this person. She felt really phony. Like she tried to be in third person but would forget....wierd.
